This shoe size converter changes adult shoe sizes between US men’s, US women’s, UK, EU and Mondopoint (Japan). You can start from a size you already know or from your foot length in centimetres or inches.
How shoe size systems work
- UK and US sizes step in barleycorns of ⅓ inch (8.47 mm). US men’s is about one size above UK, and US women’s about two sizes above UK.
- EU sizes step in Paris points of ⅔ cm (6.67 mm), so one EU size is smaller than one UK size.
- Mondopoint, used in Japan and for ski boots, is simply your foot length in millimetres.
The shoe’s inside length (the last) is longer than your foot, so the calculator adds about 1.5 cm of room.

How to measure your foot
- Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, late in the day when feet are largest.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe and measure from the wall to the mark.
- Measure both feet and use the longer one.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between US men’s and women’s sizes?
For the same foot, a US women’s size is about 1.5 to 2 sizes larger than the men’s size. For example, a men’s 8 is about a women’s 9.5 to 10.
Is UK size the same as US size?
No. A UK size is about one size smaller than the US men’s size and about two sizes smaller than the US women’s size.
Why do my sizes differ between brands?
Each brand uses its own lasts and fit. Check the brand’s own size chart, especially when buying online.
What should I do if I am between sizes?
Choose the larger size for walking or running shoes, which need room for feet to swell, and try the smaller for shoes that stretch, such as leather.
