How GPA is calculated
Each letter grade has a point value (A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0 and so on). Multiply each course’s points by its credit hours, add them up, and divide by the total credits.
GPA = total grade points ÷ total credit hours
Worked example
A (3 credits), B+ (4 credits), A− (3 credits) and B (2 credits) give 12 + 13.2 + 11.1 + 6 = 42.3 grade points over 12 credits, a GPA of 3.53.
