This dice roller rolls any number of d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 or d100 dice. Add a modifier, drop the lowest die for character stats, and see the exact chance of rolling at least a target total, which is useful for board games and tabletop role-playing games.
Dice notation
Games write dice as NdS + M: N dice with S sides plus a modifier M. For example, 2d6 + 3 means roll two six-sided dice and add 3. “4d6 drop lowest” means roll four six-sided dice and add the highest three, a common way to create role-playing characters.
Odds for two six-sided dice
| Total | Ways | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 | 1/36 (2.78%) |
| 3 | 2 | 2/36 (5.56%) |
| 4 | 3 | 3/36 (8.33%) |
| 5 | 4 | 4/36 (11.11%) |
| 6 | 5 | 5/36 (13.89%) |
| 7 | 6 | 6/36 (16.67%) |
| 8 | 5 | 5/36 (13.89%) |
| 9 | 4 | 4/36 (11.11%) |
| 10 | 3 | 3/36 (8.33%) |
| 11 | 2 | 2/36 (5.56%) |
| 12 | 1 | 1/36 (2.78%) |
7 is the most likely total with two dice because more combinations add up to it than to any other number.
Average roll
The average of one die with S sides is (S + 1) ÷ 2: 3.5 for a d6 and 10.5 for a d20. Multiply by the number of dice and add the modifier for the average total.
Frequently asked questions
Is this dice roller fair?
Yes. Each roll uses the browser’s cryptographic random generator with no bias, so every face is equally likely.
What is the chance of rolling a natural 20?
1 in 20, or 5%, on each roll of a d20.
How do I roll with advantage?
Roll 2d20 with “drop the lowest” turned on; the result is the higher of the two dice.
What does d100 mean?
A percentile die with results from 1 to 100, often rolled as two d10s.
