What Is the Army Body Fat Calculator?
This calculator uses the U.S. Army's official tape-test method (based on the same circumference formula as the Navy method) to estimate body fat percentage and check it against Army body composition standards by age and gender.
Formula Used
Men: Body Fat % = 86.010 × log10(waist − neck) − 70.041 × log10(height) + 36.76
Women: Body Fat % = 163.205 × log10(waist + hip − neck) − 97.684 × log10(height) − 78.387
How to Use This Calculator
Select your gender, enter your age, height, neck, and waist measurements (plus hip for women), then click "Calculate Army Body Fat" to see your estimated percentage and standard compliance status.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the exact method used by the Army for official testing?
This calculator uses the same circumference-based formula the Army uses, but official testing follows a precise measurement protocol — treat this as an informal estimate, not an official reading.
Why do standards change by age?
Body fat naturally tends to increase somewhat with age even at a stable fitness level, so standards are adjusted across age brackets.
Is this different from the regular Body Fat Calculator?
The underlying formula is the same as our Body Fat Calculator, but this version also compares your result against official Army age and gender standards.
What if I don't meet the standard?
This is an informational tool only — official body composition assessments and any related decisions should go through your unit's official testing process.
